Hello, I'm Kate!
I'm a Neurodivergent Educational Consultant with decades of professional experience in the disability, parenting and education, and a lifetime of lived experience as a neurodivergent person and parent of neurodivergent children.
When my neurodivergent children were younger I felt isolated.
I questioned every decision I made because parenting advice was not designed for kids like mine. It was clear my family was different from those around us.
The professional advice I received for my autistic PDA children focused on changing their behaviour at the cost of their regulation. I knew children couldn’t learn or grow while dysregulated. I wanted support to navigate the daily challenges without compromising their long-term development or our relationship.
Even with a degree in childhood development, my family wasn’t thriving so I used my ADHD hyperfocus and I dove into researching neurodivergent parenting approaches. I realised two things:
-
There wasn’t a neurodivergent-affirming parenting approach that prioritised long-term wellbeing, growth, and development.
-
My family’s complexity, with multiple diagnoses, left professionals struggling to understand or provide helpful advice.
So, I became the expert my children needed and developed a parenting approach that allowed them to truely thrive in their own unique way. My eldest is now an adult and I could not be prouder of who they have become and our journey together. Both of my children have a strong sense of identity, they know who they are, can ask for what they need, can self-regulate and support others they are about and most importantly they like themselves exactly as they are while still working towards their individual goals. Yes PDAer's can work towards their own goals but solid regulation is the key!
For the past 10 years, I’ve supported parents to become the neuroaffirming parent their child needs. I love helping parents feel truly understood, connected, and supported, so they can confidently raise their autistic and neurodivergent children.
