Why this group?

These small groups are a great way to deep dive into a specialised neuroaffirming topic. You will be grouped with parents whose children have similar needs to your own. Together, you will learn the foundational pillars for supporting your children exactly where they are at.

We will discuss neuroaffirming parenting approaches specific to your situation and identify actionable steps that promote growth and development. We use my Neurodevelopmental Circle of Needs model to make complex concepts easy to understand and action.

Learn together with like minded parents so you don’t have to work this out on your own.

Feel supported and seen

We often feel like we are the only one whose life is this intense because unless we are connected to other neurodivergent families we don’t see families that look like ours

Practice and lived experience

Kate has over 25 years professional experience across education and disability. As well as her own lived experience as a multi-neurodivergent parent raising multi-neurodivergent children who are now confident teenagers

The group is neuroaffirming for you, not just for your child

This group is designed to be low demand.

Come as you are.

Type your questions instead of speaking them, or email them to me beforehand if you know you will lose them on the day.

Eat, fidget, walk around, lie down.

Keep your camera off.

Arrive late, leave early, or miss a week.

You get to experience the kind of support we talk about giving our children.

If you have been questioning your parenting abilities, I want you to know

the problem is not your parenting.

When I was in the early stages of my parenting journey I was so confused because what worked for others did not work for my kids. I was told to try harder, be firmer and keep using the tools that I knew were not working.

The problem was that neurodivergent affirming tools and knowledge are needed for your child and family to thrive but none of us are taught these skills. We need to learn how to navigate what comes with raising neurodivergent children in a neuronormative world.

Neurodivergent brains and bodies need a different support structure. Parenting with the wrong model and without a likeminded community is parenting on “hard mode” and we are often blamed when these strategies do not work for our kids.

I have developed a neuroaffirming parenting model that focuses on meeting individual needs. My Neurodevelopmental Circle of Needs model forms the basis of the parent groups. It is used to support you to identify, understand and meet not only your child's needs but also your needs and the needs of the whole family. Sustainable and actionable steps are key as preventing and addressing burnout is a foundational pillar of my model.

I can help you find a different way forward that aligns with your child’s needs and promotes neuroaffirming flourishing.

Hello, I'm Kate!

"I love hosting specialised neuroaffirming parent groups not only because I get to talk about my SpIn (special interest) in child development and neurodivergence but also because when we learn and grow together over time we build community. Connecting through shared lived experiences brings a sense of belonging and mutuality that so many of us really need. When we feel supported, we can get through the tough moments and keep showing up for our kids. I hope to meet you soon and please reach out if you have any questions"

I’m committed to a future where neurodivergent people are understood, valued, and supported to flourish in all areas of life. In my work I weave together four strands:

  1. Lived experience as a multi-neurodivergent person of grown up neurodivergent kids
  2. Co-leader of Autistic research at Flinders University
  3. 25 years of directly supporting neurodivergent people and their networks as a consultant, educator, key worker and support worker utilising my education and development degree
  4. Active advocate & member of multiple neurodivergent communities

Hello, I'm Kate!

I'm a Neurodivergent Educational Consultant with decades of professional experience in the disability, parenting and education, and a lifetime of lived experience as a neurodivergent person and parent of neurodivergent children.

When my neurodivergent children were younger I felt isolated.

I questioned every decision I made because parenting advice was not designed for kids like mine. It was clear my family was different from those around us.

The professional advice I received for my autistic PDA children focused on changing their behaviour at the cost of their regulation. I knew children couldn’t learn or grow while dysregulated. I wanted support to navigate the daily challenges without compromising their long-term development or our relationship.

Even with a degree in childhood development, my family wasn’t thriving so I used my ADHD hyperfocus and I dove into researching neurodivergent parenting approaches. I realised two things:

  1. There wasn’t a neurodivergent-affirming parenting approach that prioritised long-term wellbeing, growth, and development.

  2. My family’s complexity, with multiple diagnoses, left professionals struggling to understand or provide helpful advice.

So, I became the expert my children needed and developed a parenting approach that allowed them to truely thrive in their own unique way. My eldest is now an adult and I could not be prouder of who they have become and our journey together. Both of my children have a strong sense of identity, they know who they are, can ask for what they need, can self-regulate and support others they are about and most importantly they like themselves exactly as they are while still working towards their individual goals. Yes PDAer's can work towards their own goals but solid regulation is the key!

For the past 10 years, I’ve supported parents to become the neuroaffirming parent their child needs. I love helping parents feel truly understood, connected, and supported, so they can confidently raise their autistic and neurodivergent children.
