A dedicated space that centres your neuroaffirming learning and growth

Why this group?

As therapists, allied health practitioners, and early childhood specialists, you spend your weeks holding space for others. This group offers a dedicated place each month for you to debrief, unpack your concerns, and ask the tricky questions that are hard to ask. We address the real-world challenges from a neuroaffirming perspective, while building confidence to integrate neuroaffirming practices into daily practice. This is a space where your neuroaffirming learning journey is centred.

We move beyond standard frameworks using my Neurodevelopmental Circle of Needs model, which is grounded in developmental science and  25 years of experience with neurodivergent individuals, their families and their therapeutic and educational teams

I created this Neuroaffirming Professional Reflective Practice Group for those who want a dedicated environment to unlearn, relearn, grow, and transform their professional approach to become truly neuroaffirming. This group is a dedicated, confidential space designed to:

  • Bridge theory into practice with clear, neuroaffirming steps for daily practice
  • Equip you with neuroaffirming tools and frameworks that are actionable and practical
  • Pinpoint critical gaps in standard support and map out actionable steps for meaningful, neuroaffirming change
  • Adress the tension between neuroaffirming values and normative system demands

What a session looks like

Here is exactly how our session together flow:

1. Co-Designing Our Topics

We choose our focus areas together. In our first session, we map out the clinical themes, dilemmas, and systemic barriers you are currently facing in your practice. Whether the group wants to dive into deconstructing neuronormative milestones, navigating sensory-friendly pacing, or understanding our own biases and protective responses, the curriculum is built around your real-world experiences.

2. Dynamic Pacing: Deepening vs. Moving On

We do not rush through content, the pace of each session is entirely collaborative. If a particular case study sparks an invaluable discussion, we lean into it and go deeper. If the group feels complete with a topic, we pivot and move forward.

3. Low-Pressure Case Studies (Sharing is Optional)

Case studies are our primary tool for learning, but sharing is always completely optional. You are welcome to bring a complex client scenario to unpack, or you can simply sit back, listen, and absorb the collective wisdom of the room.

What if nobody has an example?

If everyone arrives with an empty tank and no active cases to share, I always have a bank of rich, de-identified neuroaffirming case studies ready to go. We will never sit in awkward silence or pressure anyone to contribute. We will simply use a prepared scenario to anchor our discussion and reflection.

What we work through

Together, we will move beyond standard normative models to explore the deep intersection of neurodivergent development and thriving through the lens of my Neurodevelopmental Circle of Needs model developed from 25 years of working with neurodivergent people, their families and support networks.

My model combines neuroaffirming ttol, practices and principles with elements of key developmental theories such as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs with Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems model to identify gaps in meeting neurodivergent needs and to reflect on what actionable steps are required.

We alternate between unpacking case studies and neuroaffirming concepts relevant to the group’s chosen topics.

Using the Neurodevelopmental Circle of Needs model, we collaboratively unpack the layers and look past surface-level "behaviours". We look at the child’s needs through a developmental lens and how they interact with the world through their nervous system, sensory system, cognitive processing and values system.

We also consider their needs in terms of broader systems of impact and the context in which the child exists. For example, the direct influences such as school, family and community as well as broader social and cultural structures such as ableism, capitalism and childism.

This reflective practice group is designed for

Passionate early childhood specialists, therapists and allied health professionals who want to add neuroaffirming perspectives and deeper nuance to their existing therapeutic toolkit.

It has completely flipped my knowledge to a new level.

“Prior to working with Kate, I had what I considered a reasonable understanding of neurodivergent children; since working with Kate, it has completely flipped my knowledge to a new level.

I have developed a new approach to my students with more knowledge, awareness and insight into children who present with more complex profiles. I have challenged my own beliefs and perceptions, and now have a far more discerning approach to enable me to not only make different considerations for learning, but also for students who are “masking’, struggling with anxiety, and present as PDA or RSD.

Kate has been non-judgmental in her approach and has presented some outstanding professional learning to staff.  In addition to this, Kate has acted as a wonderful mentor and liaison between school and families. Thank you Kate! You have provided me with a new lens, and a new way to see and think about neurodivergent needs.”

Experience neuroaffirming practices

This Neuroaffirming Professional Reflective Practice Group is intentionally designed to be flexible, emergent, and completely respectful of your energy levels. The foundations of neuroaffirming practice are integrated into how this group is designed to give you a felt sense and experience of neuroaffirming practice in action. We will co-create a space that adapts to the real-time needs of the group.

If your capacity is low right now, please know that you can show up exactly as you are, with your camera off, eating your snacks, or simply listening in the background. Or you may already be full of questions and ready to actively unpack, reflect and learn.

Frequently Asked Questions

Founder Kate smiling indoors, sitting by a green couch with cushions and holding a blue mug.

Hello, I'm Kate!

As therapists, educators and supporters of neurodivergent people and their families we are in a position to have a profound impact on their quality of life. Unfortunately, our degrees do not include neuroaffirming care, knowledge or practice so we have to find this on our own. However it can be very confronting to address normative biases in real time as neurodivergent affirming expectations increase. The neurodiversity movement is relatively new so keeping up with the evolving landscape can be confusing and appear contradictory. I have created this group as a space where you can ask the tricky questions and analyse these complex dynamics with me.

Together we can work towards a future where neurodivergent people are understood, valued, and supported to flourish in all areas of life.

In my work I weave together four strands:

  1. Lived experience as a multi-neurodivergent person of grown up neurodivergent kids
  2. Co-leader of Autistic research at Flinders University
  3. 20 years of directly supporting neurodivergent people and their networks as a consultant, educator, key worker and support worker utilising my education and development degree
  4. Active advocate & member of multiple neurodivergent communities

Twenty places

The group is capped at twenty (20) so there is room for everyone to share, reflect and learn deeply.
